Q. Line diameter vs lb Test A. Q: I am wondering if it is more important to match line diameter to the dive curve chart than the pound test of the line. For example, I was looking at mono last night and noticed that different brands of 10 lb mono range in line diameter from less than .012 to .014. The thin line would then follow the dive curve of 8lb line where the thicker line would resemble a 12 lb curve. Should I be trying to buy 10 lb line that is close to .0134" in diameter, regardless of lb test, so as to stay close to the dive curve?
ps - Can you recommend a good line counter reel please?
A: Yes, line diameter is more accurate than the pound test. When testing, we used Berkley line on most, Stren on the later curves. If you match the line diameter to the curve, you will be most accurate. Our personnal favorite for line counters is the Diawa line counter. They perfected the technology and last forever. It is up to each individual the size you choose. |
